HOUSE Y
色彩を抑えた静かな空間の中に、異なる素材の表情を重ねることで、奥行きのある住空間を目指した。
壁には左官を思わせる柔らかな粒子感をもたせ、床にはコテの動きがわずかに残る仕上げを施している。それらのマットで揺らぎのある表情に対して、土本来の深い色味と艶をもつタイルを組み合わせた。均質に整えられた表面ではなく、素材そのものが持つ不均一さや、仕上げの中に残る人の手によるわずかな揺らぎを大切にしている。
タイルは同じ素材を一様に反復するのではなく、建築の部位やプロポーションに応じて、その見え方に変化を与えた。柱では縦の方向性を強調し、壁では一枚一枚の表情が感じられるプロポーションに、腰壁では低く水平に連続させることで空間を横断する基準線としている。ひとつの素材に異なるリズムを与えることで、空間全体に連続性を持たせながら、それぞれの場所に異なる表情をつくり出した。
そして、それらの素材の表情は、光の移ろいによってさらに変化していく。柔らかく光を受け止める面、陰影によってコテの跡や粒子感が浮かび上がる面、光を受けて艶や色の深さを変えるタイル。朝から夕方へと移ろう光や、季節によって変化する陽の入り方によって、同じ空間にも少しずつ異なる表情が現れる。
一日の中で、そして一年を通して変化していく光と素材の関係を、日々の暮らしの中で楽しめる空間を目指した。
In a quiet interior with a restrained palette, the project seeks to create depth by layering the expressions of different materials.
The walls have a soft granular texture reminiscent of hand-applied plaster, while the floor retains faint traces of the trowel’s movement. Against these matte, subtly irregular surfaces, tiles with the deep natural color and lustre of fired earth are introduced. Rather than pursuing perfectly uniform finishes, the design values the inherent variation of the materials and the slight fluctuations left by the hand.
The tiles are not repeated uniformly. Their expression changes in response to each architectural element and its proportions. On columns, they emphasize verticality; on walls, their dimensions allow the character of each piece to be perceived; along wainscots, they run low and horizontal as a datum line extending across the space. By giving one material different rhythms, the design creates continuity throughout the interior while lending each place its own expression.
These material qualities continue to change with shifting light. Some surfaces receive light softly; on others, shadows reveal traces of the trowel and the grain of the finish; the tiles deepen in color and lustre as light moves across them. From morning to evening, and with the changing angle of the sun through the seasons, the same space takes on subtly different expressions.
The aim was to create a home in which the relationship between light and material—changing through each day and across the year—can be enjoyed as part of everyday life.
